Your previous lessons are not wasted
Observations, mirrors, junction routines, road position, speed control, hazard awareness and planning all transfer from manual to automatic. The main change is that you no longer need to coordinate clutch control and manual gear changes.
What happens on your first automatic lesson?
I first let you get used to the Renault Zoe and then assess the skills you already have. If your general driving is strong but the clutch was holding you back, we can move on quickly. If there are gaps elsewhere, we work on those directly.
Why some learners make faster progress after switching
Manual control can consume a surprising amount of attention, especially at junctions, hills and low-speed situations. Removing that workload can make it easier to concentrate on observations and decision-making.
What licence will you get?
If you pass the practical test in an automatic car, your licence is restricted to automatic vehicles. You can drive automatic petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars, but not a manual car unless you later pass a manual test.
Is switching right for everyone?
No. Some learners still want a manual licence and are making reasonable progress. The point of the first automatic lesson is to give you enough information to decide what works for you, not to pressure you into switching.
